Pennsylvania natives, Tom and Joanne Gildea are among the newest neighbors to make The Fountains at Lake Pointe Woods home. Tom graduated from Villanova University in 1952 and Joanne graduated from Dickinson College in 1954. Tom served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and went on to be a Commercial General Contractor. Joanne owned her own small antique business, she is an avid golfer and together they enjoy playing bridge. They have three children, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and three more great-grandchildren on the way. For the past ten years, they’ve spent the majority of their time in sunny Florida, content to visit their Pennsylvania relatives and friends in the summers.

A THOUGHTFUL ACT
The future is unpredictable. That’s why, even though they still very much enjoyed living in Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida, Tom and Joanne Gildea decided to discover the right retirement community, where they can both enjoy life with the added peace of mind of knowing their spouses will be well situated no matter what the future holds. “If we wait too much longer, then the next thing you know your kids are trying to make decisions for you that maybe you don’t agree with but you don’t have the wherewithal or the mental capacity to make those decisions. So I wanted to do it primarily so that if something happens to me, Joanne will be taken care of.” – Tom Gildea

FLEXIBLE OPTIONS
It was love at first sight when Tom and Joanne rounded the corner to see the lake and peaceful campus. They wasted no time settling into their spacious villa in October, 2014. With two bedrooms, a sunroom, den, laundry room, nice kitchen, great room and screened front porch, Joanne says, “Oh my goodness, we have a lot of room.” Not that they spend much time inside. Tom attends every history lecture offered and visits the gym every day. Joanne enjoys the beautiful pool and water aerobics classes as well as many other fitness offerings. When Joanne doesn’t feel like cooking, they simply take advantage of the superb dining program. “We have the options.” – Tom Gildea

RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME
Now, whether they’re with neighbors enjoying brunch outings to Siesta Key or relaxing at home, Tom and Joanne know they’ve made the best decision for them. Tom no longer has to worry about things breaking down around the house or about what Joanne would do with a big house should something happen to him. Their kids are relieved, too. They’re so thrilled. They’ve been down here to see what we have and it’s just wonderful. They know we’re going to be taken care of down here. That’s the key. – Tom Gildea
